The European Information Society Group (EURIM) and the Institute for Public Policy Research (the IPPR) are co-operating in a major study on the actions necessary to address the growing problem of computer assisted crime. "Protecting the vulnerable".

The first Discussion Paper from this study Partnership Policing for the Information Society was published in 2003 with a deadline on 19th December for comments on the following Working Papers:

Reporting Methods and Structures

Reducing Opportunities for E-crime

Addressing the needs of Small Firms and others who are vulnerable

Roles & Procedures for Investigation

Growing the Necessary Skills

Legal Issues

Also released were two supporting Appendices on:

Abbreviations

The Scale and Nature of Computer Assisted Crime

The paper on the needs of small firms was subsequently revised in the light of comment and published on 13th February as: Discussion Paper 2 Protecting the Vulnerable

Much of the material was then used for the EURIM submission to the Police Reform Consultation: Building Safer On-line Communities Together.

The paper on growing the necessary skills was also revised and published on 18th May as: Discussion Paper 3 Supplying the Skills for Justice.

The other papers are currently (Spring 2004) being revised for publication.
